God does have a plan as he created you with a purpose and loves you. We may have seasons where we pursue that answer and simply don’t find direction. There are other times when we get caught up in trying to be better and get more things on our own. We may pay passing attention to God but our true ambitions come through our focus on success, power and money. We all eventually look deeper when, or if, we stop and recognize the lack of eternal significance in those things. Fortunately, God is bigger than us and not surprised by our actions. He is actually more interested in our future than we are and wants to help us get there. He has created us for good works that he has planned in advance.
The challenge we have is that our desire for a plan is often limited to this world and not eternity. God’s ultimate desire is for us to join him in heaven. His plan is much bigger and starts with us being close to him. This means loving Jesus, sharing that love with others, and using our unique gifts and talents for something bigger than our own desires.
The plan also involves bringing glory to God and is more than what career or spouse we choose. God does not dictate those decisions but offers those who trust him guidance through his word and the Holy Spirit. If you are looking for a step-by-step plan then you may be disappointed. However, when we submit to God and scripture we find his plan for us written on our hearts and leading us into good purposes.
The simplest place to start is where his word guides us. He tells us that we should be joyful, be praying and be thankful no matter where we are in life. Seeking God’s will and trusting him may just lead you to something bigger than you ever imagined.
For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
